Thanks for the tips. I have to agree with you that in most cases it&#039;s clipping. I will take a look at how I can make this article better. 

I actually had a set of 12in W3&#039;s melt. The amp I was running was way overpowering the subs and the heat actually melted the voice coils.]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[You are incorrect with your comment on wattage. I have never had a blown speaker because of wattage mismatch (over 50yrs). 
Amp Distortion is what will blow your speakers. 
I&#039;ve had woofer surrounds go from age. I had BA HD5s (6) where the glue did nor hold up on the surrounds, all woofers were replaced with a different brand and years later they are still fine. 

But,  i have never had speakers blow from a power mismatch. Actually, I ignore the power rating in the speakers. A low power amp pushed to clipping is more likely to damage speakers than a high power amp that is just pushing out a few watts to get to the same volume level.]]></description>
