How Large does Great Pyrenees Get 

The Great Pyrenees dogs were initially used as working dogs, and later they became the royal dog breed of France. Today, great Pyrenees dogs are a popular choice for pet owners. 

As the name suggests, the Great Pyrenees dogs are bigger in size. The average height of a Great Pyrenees dog is about 25 to 30 inches. But all the great Pyrenees male and female dogs are not the same sizes. 

Usually, male great Pyrenees dogs are bigger than female great Pyrenees dogs. This size difference is usually in the weight and fullness, not so much how tall they are.

When it comes to their weight, there is a huge difference. 

Weight of the Great Pyrenees Dog

People underestimate the size of a Great Pyrenees dog, but in reality, Great Pyrenees dogs are a big dog breed.

For example, a female great Pyrenees dog weighs around 80 to 100 pounds. On the other hand, a male great Pyrenees dog weighs around 100 to 150 pounds.

The average weight gap between a male and female great Pyrenees dog is about 70 pounds.

You can identify a male and female great Pyrenees dog just by looking at their weight. Due to its weight, the great Pyrenees dogs fall in the XX-Large breed category. 

Other XX-Large breed dogs are Alaskan Malamute, Great Dane, and Saint Bernard. People generally consider these breeds as big dogs. But as I mentioned earlier, when it comes to the great Pyrenees dogs, people underestimate their weight and size.

Growth of the Great Pyrenees Dog

It takes around two years for a Great Pyrenees dog to become fully grown. However, this can vary from male to female. 

Male Great Pyrenees Dog

At 4th month, a male great Pyrenees dog will weigh around 47 to 50 pounds. After month 6, this weight will continue to increase up to 69 to 72 pounds. In the upcoming months, the weight of a male great Pyrenees dog will increase, and at 1 year, a male great Pyrenees dog will weigh more than 100 pounds. 

At 1 year, a male great Pyrenees dog will reach its full height that is 25 to 30 inches. In the next 1 year, a male great Pyrenees dog will gain 60 pounds more. 

Female Great Pyrenees Dog

As I mentioned earlier, a female great Pyrenees dog’s weight is way less than a male great Pyrenees dog. That’s why a female great Pyrenees dog weighs only 36 to 40 pounds at 4th month. On the other hand, a male great Pyrenees dog weighs over 50 pounds. From this, you can notice the difference between a male and female great Pyrenees dog. 

At month 6, a female great Pyrenees dog will weigh around 55 to 60 pounds, and at 1 year, they will reach 74 to 78 pounds. But at this stage, a male great Pyrenees dog will weigh above 100 pounds. 

Just like a male great Pyrenees dog, a female great Pyrenees dog will 20 pounds more in the next one year.

Mental Maturity of a Great Pyrenees Dog

If you’re planning to adopt a Great Pyrenees dog, you should know about its mental age. It’s the age when a great Pyrenees dog will start behaving like an adult dog. 

Great Pyrenees dogs mature at 2 years of age. That means you’ll have to be prepared to have a big puppy in your home. Also, at 2 years old, a Great Pyrenees dog will weigh over 100 pounds and 25 to 30 inches in size. If you don’t socialize your big puppy properly, it can create a lot of problems. Besides, a 150 pounds dog can be very intimidating for so many if they aren’t properly trained. That’s why you’ll have to train and socialize your great Pyrenees dog at an early size. 

But don’t worry. The Great Pyrenees dogs are very clever and expert in finding things by themselves. That means you won’t have a tough time while training your Great Pyrenees dog.
