I know adding water to your coffee maker for an occasional cup is not a very difficult thing to do. But when it comes to someone having the daily coffee fix, the simpler and easier you can make the better.

Let’s Find Out How to Hook Up a Coffee Maker to a Water Line.

Having a plumbed coffee maker with a water line connection is both hard and simple at the same time. If you’ve ever spent time working on DIY home improvement projects, this won’t be very confusing. It is Its like adding a line to your fridge.  While it could be a bit overwhelming for people who dont have much experiance working on home projects. There are two methods that you can use for making the water line connection. We will discuss both ways of connecting coffee maker with water line.

Method 1 – Using a Plumb Kit for Connection

I’ll be referring to the Keurig coffee maker for this guideline, simply because it’s quite a general one that has a pretty similar method of water line connection. Now for the supplies that you’ll need to make such a connection, get a plumb kit like the one above. 

Make sure you are using your office or home’s drinkable water line. Hardware stores, plumbing stores, or even online sites like Amazon carry these.

First of all, you need to connect the head unit to bracket. To do so, there should be four screws. Pay attention to the OUT and IN marked sides on the head. Let the side with IN mark face to right. Then you need to get the cap out from water filter’s top. When in use, this cap basically plays role of keeping filter fresh. However, with this process, you need to detach it. In some cases, there can be no presence of such a yellow cap. You can proceed to the next step if that’s so.

Now focus on the button area of head filter. You need to attach the water filter here. Twist the filter a bit until it is completely fitting with the head unit. Then there should be a Grey Ball Valve that needs connection with One Way Check Valve. One end of your water line needs to go with the free end of 1-way-check valve.

Now time to insert the gray ball valve, simply put it inside the IN marked head unit side. Then fit the open end of line to source of water. Use a quarter-inch adapter or angle-stop valve to make this happen. Also, you need to ensure that you turn the water source off before proceeding.

Make sure you take your time to flush the water filter before proceeding further. You can simply hold the filter above a huge bucket or your kitchen sink. Make sure the OUT marked side of the filter head is facing downwards. Turn the water simply on. Twist the grey ball valve’s a green lever in case nothing comes out.

Don’t gross out seeing black stuff coming out of your filter. That’s pretty normal to happen. You must use at least 5 to 6 gallons of water for flushing the filter properly. Just make sure the water is coming out clear, that’s when you can stop.

And finally, you can turn the supply off. Then you need to fix the coffee maker’s connector to machine.  Simply screwing the thing to brewer is more than enough. You can then insert a water line of 10 inches. This needs to go through the Head unit’s OUT marked side. There should be two existing screws with your brewer. You need to use these for attaching the bracket to brewer’s back. And that should bring us to the end of this mission.
