Remove Odors From Plastic Shaker Cups

Before I get started with how to clean your disgusting cups you should know that not all cups are the same. METAL SHAKER CUPS LIKE THE ONES LISTED BELOW WILL NOT ABSORB THE ODORS YOUR PLASTIC CUPS DO. SCROLL DOWN TO FIND WHAT YOU SHOULD BE USING ALREADY.

Vinegar

This usually will do it and you will not need to move on to the next step. Start off with cold water, you don’t want to use hot. Hot will only make it soak into the plastic more. Fill your shaker cup with white vinegar, put the lid on and wait. I would let it sit overnight. Rinse with hot water and soap. If this doesn’t work move on to the next step.

Baking Soda, Lemon, and Vanilla

Sure you can do just baking soda if you want, but why not use the power of three ingredients at the same time. Now we’re getting serious. We just want the odors out of the darn shaker cup. So fill the container with Hot water, yes hot water this time. We know the smell is already deep in the plastic if the vinegar didn’t do the trick.

Now add two tablespoons of baking soda –Squeeze in a fresh cut lemon or if you have lemon juice in the fridge that will work too. Next, add in a teaspoon of vanilla. Snap on the lid, and let it sit probably overnight again. Washing it out with soap and water the next day and find out if you were successful or not. Warning: you have just added hot water to a shaker cup, even though you really want to, do not shake the cup. We don’t want anyone to make a mess or get burned.

Sunshine and Time

If the first two methods didn’t work congratulations you really messed up your blender cup. Now you have a few options. Turn it upside down place one foot on it and see how long you can keep your balance until you fall and bust open your head. Option two place the cup outside in the sun for a week to seek if the gym like smells are washed away by the miraculous sunshine. Options three, you probably should just do option three anyway.

Metal Shaker Cups are the best

Option 3, the only choice that makes sense at this point. Buy a metal shaker cup. Why? Because you have proved you cannot take care of a plastic one so It’s time for you to graduate to metal. I think you will find that they are better in every way. Easier to clean, better for the environment, no worries of leaching plastic, able to take hot liquids (unsealed of course), and most importantly the smells you are a master at creating will not stay with it forever. I have two recommendations for you these are my favorites. One doubles really well as a refillable water bottle so its a two for one.

My final recommendation may sound silly to some, but it works great. If you have one of these and dont want to spend the extra money on a shaker cup than you really don’t need to. My coffee cup doubles as a shaker cup. I have a super sealing, super strong contigo coffee cup. I have had them for literally years and they are without a doubt the best coffee cups ever. I even use them for cold liquids without the lid.

The lid is what makes them so great for doubling as a shaker cup. Take a look at how big those threads are. As far as shaker cups go nothing is a strong as my Contigo coffee cups. i still love my metal shaker cups, but when its in the dishwasher ill just grab my coffee cup and use it as a shaker.
